Rowing at FFSC

Felixstowe Ferry Rowing Group

Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club (FFSC) is delighted to announce the inception of a new rowing group based at the FFSC. The Felixstowe Ferry Rowing Group (FFRG) will offer coastal rowing, primarily in a pilot gig (fixed-seat rowing, 1 cox, 6 rowers).
Pilot gig rowing involves a full body rowing technique. For any FFSC members who may be interested, you can get a good idea of what is involved from this Youtube clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT2GQu8Xe9Q

FFRG have had a new pilot gig built (“St Felix”), which was delivered from Cornwall in December 2020. Incidentally, FFRG has uncovered some interesting history, which indicates that – far from introducing pilot gig rowing to Suffolk – they are actually reviving an old tradition of pilot gig rowing in Suffolk!

After COVID restrictions are lifted, and following the establishment of safe operating protocols, the FFRG will be officially open later this year, and will run regular taster sessions for people who are interested. (18 years old and over). If you would like to get on a taster session, or find out more about the rowing group, please contact rowing@ffsc.co.uk. All members of the rowing group must also be FFSC members, and will benefit from the changing room, bar and restaurant facilities offered by the sailing club.

Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club (FFSC) also offers 1:1 RYA Sailing and powerboat training courses, Dinghy sailing, yacht sailing for boat owners, lovely bar and galley service & a great social programme throughout a normal year.

Youth sailing at Felixstowe Ferry (YSFF) Charity offers a sailing programme for all abilities for ages 10 to 18 years old.

FFSC are looking forward to welcoming you into their club when they re-open.
