Club Maintenance
With the relaxing of restrictions we are now able to start the process of bringing the clubhouse out of hibernation. Whilst in hibernation the club has been watched over by a caring team of volunteers on a daily basis, and a COVID committee was formed to discuss and plan the reopening of the club. The committee have held virtual meetings every week and researched the issues that we will encounter. Probably for the first time since the last Deben week there has been discussion and information sharing between the three main sailing clubs on the river. Thanks to one of our members kind generosity all three clubs have an ample supply of disposable face masks and gloves, which have been provided to us free of charge. A list of over 20 volunteers have offered to help with the work that needs to be done inside and outside the club. To date we have had four sessions and I wish to thank all those who acted as guinea pigs, as we tested the practicality of our operating procedures and risk assessments for working in the clubhouse under COVID restrictions. I’m sure you want to hear from me news about how the clubhouse is and when you will be able to return to the club. Sadly, but not unsurprisingly we have found maintenance issues. Whilst undertaking the recommended procedure to flush the water system, to deal with potential Legionella infection, the gents showers started leaking into the changing rooms below. They are thus unusable until the leak has been fixed. An amount of mould has grown on the walls and ceiling of the bar store, and so we are having to thoroughly clean all surfaces in the store and will be repainting the rooms with mould resistant paint. The bar and store were long overdue a refurb, with many long forgotten items being found. We are continuing to work in the club so that it will be ready to welcome you back, as soon as we can.
