Ys picnic 21.9.24
The second picnic this year for youth sailing, and what a great day it was. As the briefing was being given the lunch bags were packed in crates ready for careful loading and ease for transportation, and off up the river to the Rocks area. As this is more of a fun day, some students sail double handed with a friend or even triple handed while enjoying a sing song but all still having coaching along the way.
Arriving at the ski jetty area a game of “rib-raiders” got underway, splitting the fleet in two competing against each other, this game helps to improve close boat handling skills and for some team work.
Tummies rumbling it was soon time to push on, so to the Rocks we go. Perfect conditions made for a pleasant sail, arriving at the empty beach for an easy landing. While lunches were being eaten, some safety crew, instructors and helpers took to the water in various dinghies having a sail themselves, much to the surprise of a few students!!
Fun over for the adults, the students can choose different boats to try then out for more sailing, although some decide to stay on shore for a swim or go shark tooth hunting. Time flies when you are having fun and it’s soon turn about and head back to the ferry. A great sight to see the fleet sailing together and all returning home safely.
Happy Sailing⛵️

Perfect conditions for the sailing morning with 34 sailors ready to go. Out comes the sun lotion as temperatures hit 20°. Something a little different this week, firstly we welcomed some new youth members, and a few Felixstowe Sea Cadets who joined in the session and secondly we split the fleet into two groups. The upper groups went out to sea and were practicing racing starts ready for Barts Bash that afternoon, and the other groups sailed along the river for fun tuition. Lots learned by all participants who returned with smiling faces.
