Sailing in Company and Dinghy Cruises

Sailing in Company

Sailing in Company is an activity on a set date to encourage all club members to get afloat en-masse whether it be in their own dinghies or use of club owned boats through the club hire scheme for those approved to level 2 or 3 only. Safety cover is provided but all sailors sail at their own risk. It is simply a date for sailors to meet and go sailing with like minded people.

Dinghy Cruises

The club runs dinghy cruises which are an extended sail up the river or out to sea and along the coast. Club boat hire is available for all levels. Safety cover is provided however all sailors sail at their own risk. The cruise leader will decide the direction and timing of the cruise to ensure its viability. They will also establish the experience of the group and plan the trip accordingly.

  • The event dates & times will be published on the club website and in the newsletters.
  • Family and single sailors welcome.
  • The aim is to get out to sea, depending on conditions, along the coast or up the River Deben.
  • Each sailor wishing to hire a club boat will need to be signed off by the Sailing committee prior to going out.
  • Club boats are available to hire @ £10 for a double handed boat and £5 for a single handed boat.
  • If you need personal training then an instructor could be made available through the training centre, that will be an additional cost of £45.
  • If you are a beginner, then please contact sailing@ffsc.co.uk so they can arrange someone for you to sail with.
  • You are out for a few hours, again depending on the weather.
  • There will be safety boat cover for dinghy cruises but not for sailing in company.
  • For more information please email sailing@ffsc.co.uk

EVENT DISCLAIMER

By taking part in any FFSC Sailing Event I agree to the following:

  • I certify that the details given are correct.
  • I agree to be bound by The Racing Rules of Sailing and all other rules that govern this event
including any Notice of Race, Sailing instructions or any such rules, and that my boat will conform to their requirements.
  • I undertake to sail in compliance with the RYA Racing Charter.

DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in
the Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.
It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself.
By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is
competent to sail and compete in them.
The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third
party claims in the sum of at least £2 million per event.
Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the
organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or injury, however it may have occurred, as a
result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the
racing and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, committee boat(s),
the race officers and others.
The boat is responsible to ensure that she is equipped and seaworthy so as to be able to face
extremes of weather; that there is a crew sufficient in number, experience and fitness to withstand
such weather; and that the safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date and that the
crew knows how to use it.
Any inspection of a boat by the race committee does not reduce the responsibilities set out in this
disclaimer.
