Our aim is to provide you with the opportunity to gain skills in sailing and/or power-boating, and have fun on the water. The following information will answer some of the questions that you may have about water sports activities. Should you have any additional questions then please contact us and we will ensure your questions are answered.
Activities
We teach people to sail/powerboat on the waters around Felixstowe Ferry, either in the sea or river depending upon weather conditions and sea state. Our aim is to ensure that you achieve your maximum potential in the time you have with us; Ideally working towards a recognised standard skill level, such as defined levels and courses approved by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). You will take part in rigging and launching, crewing, helming, recovery and stowing of the boats and equipment, as well as structured theory sessions.
Sailing Times
Our courses typically run for two full days or over several mornings/afternoons. The morning session runs from 09:00 to 12.30, and the afternoon session runs from 13.30 to 17:00. There are no tidal restrictions. See course details for additional specific times.
Logbooks
Certificates and a logbook are provided within the course fee but we can also provide the RYA basic skill reference books and we recommend that you purchase one if you are interested in learning about your intended watersport. Instructors can provide these on request.
Payment
For courses booked in advance you will receive an online payment link. If you cannot use this or a course is less than two weeks away payment for any activity can be tended in either cash, card or cheque. Please be aware that there are no ATMs at Felixstowe Ferry.
Clothing
We recommend that you wear suitable thin layers of clothing and a warm top layer. The sea breeze can cool when on the water, even on a hot sunny day. It is best to bring clothes that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty, as well as a change of clothes and a towel for the end of sessions.
We insist that everyone must wear appropriate footwear at all times, whether on land or water. Old trainers are acceptable, as long as they still have grip on the bottom. We do not recommend Wellington boots. The centre has sailing shoes available at £6 for adults and £5 for children.
