Felixstowe Ferry Rowing Group
We are delighted to announce the inception of a new rowing group based at the FFSC. The Felixstowe Ferry Rowing Group (FFRG) will offer coastal rowing, primarily in a pilot gig (fixed-seat rowing, 1 cox, 6 rowers).
Pilot gig rowing involves a full body rowing technique. For any FFSC members who may be interested, you can get a good idea of what is involved from this clip.
We have had a new pilot gig built (“St Felix”), which will be delivered from Cornwall on Friday.
Although the group will start officially in 2021, if you see the St Felix out on the water during the festive season, that will be a few of us testing it out to make sure it floats… This will literally be a ‘pilot’ phase, while we establish the best procedures for launching and retrieving the gig, and ferrying people to/from it safely. We aim to run ‘taster’ sessions early next year for anyone who would like to have a go.
The FFRG membership rates will be £20/month collected by FFSC in addition to the club membership. All members of the rowing group must also be FFSC members. Even though some rowers will not be sailors, hopefully all members will be enthusiastic users of the club facilities. We aim for the rowing group to be an asset to the FFSC.
We have uncovered some interesting history, which indicates that – far from introducing pilot gig rowing to Suffolk – we are actually reviving an old tradition! Membership Renewal
Thank you to many of you that have now rejoined and we hope you have received your membership welcome pack. They were sent out last weekend, but if you haven’t received it then they maybe delayed with the Christmas post. Our membership team will be gathering together the next batch of renewals in the New year, so if you join over the next couple of weeks then your welcome pack will be sent out early to mid January 2021.
For those of you that missed our membership renewal newsletter last week, it is indeed coming up to renewal time.
We recognise this has been a difficult year for all. In light of this, we have 2 great offers:
