FFSC Weekly News

Dear Club members,

I feel it is important that we update you on what is happening with the club. As you know owing to the COVID-19 situation the club has been closed since March 22nd.

We have had no trading income since then and we had to terminate our contract with Colin and Tracey Ablitt  and their Seajaya company, and thus our relationship with them. As a club we could not justify the cost of continuing this contract.

We are thus without their services and we would like to thank them for all they have done since they started working with us in 2017. They made the club a welcoming place for all.

We have spent considerable time looking at the options on how to move forward, with members of the General committee attending RYA webinars . We appointed a COVID-19 Committee on 18th May  2020, in line with the recommendation from the RYA Sport England, Government guide lines and advice from other authorities.

The committee is masterminding the massive task of reopening the club at the earliest opportunity once we are allowed to, ensuring that all the legal and recommended guidelines are followed to preserve the health and well-being of all the members and visitors.

We have had to delay or cancel all booked events as we are currently unable to offer these under Government guidelines. Many have adopted a wait and see policy to hold their event when they are able.

Initially we will have to abide by socially distancing rules and this will seriously limit the number of people who can be in the club at any one time, and maximum numbers look to be in the region of 26 people with some additional members outside weather permitting.

Before we can open we will be holding a number of socially distanced and protected work parties, using the team of volunteers who have offered to help clean and reorganise the club, to comply with the government guidelines. The whole of the club will need a clean in particular the Bar, Kitchen, Toilet and changing room facilities, together with the function rooms and access areas to bring it up to the standard we expect and want to offer to our members.

We are finalising a strategy to re-open. Initially this may rely on volunteer club members on supervision and serving duties.   Once this is in place we will be looking at the feasibility of the following options.

  • Paid employees
  • A paid Bar manager and staff and
  • If financially appropriate contracted services

Timescales are fluid and it will depend on the numbers of members who will wish to use the club once we are open. These plans are at the development stage and we will inform you as and when we can confirm the details.

If you wish to help in the deep clean work parties, please contact our COVID-19 Committee on  volunteer@ffsc.co.uk with your details, thank you

The General Committee look forward to us moving ahead and getting back to enjoying on-water and social activities at the club at the earliest.

Thank you for your offers of help, it is very much appreciated.  We are collating and scheduling for all the work we need to do and will be in touch in due course. If you haven’t offered and you would like to, then please reply to volunteer@ffsc.co.uk
