Racing Report |
The thunderheads gathered with the news that Adnams would be available for a post race beer, the doom and gloom hastened much apathy to get boats rigged and on the water, as the first flash of lightning speed up the discussions, team Suffolk Sails in the Merlin Rocket calmed everyone’s fears by stating that with the only carbon mast and carbon boat in the fleet they would be a pretty good lightning conductor for the safety of the fleet. As the clouds passed and the sun threatened to shine, the OOD stuck a finger out the window and hoisted the flags that sailors dread (do they though?) ‘N over A’ all racing abandoned. this led to the sailors next favorite game: race to the bar! Early leaders Team Clover, were closely followed by 5oh world champ Team White, team Read / Crean took an early tack and came in on the Port (usually a nice merlot for Crean?) lay line. By the time team Suffolk Sails and team Action Outdoors tacked into the bar it was full, greeted by the ever smiling Angela, Nessa and Tilly ready to whisk drinks to the needy members. The Commodore stood (well sat it is still table service) everyone to a tipple, yay Free Beer! Your correspondent can report that Mary keeps the adnams to her usual high standard, making it more moreish than other establishments – highly recommended! See you next week for more sunshine (typically, the evening was glorious after N over A; Murphy’s Law of race control!) There is Sailing in Company this Saturday, 22 May. This is relaxed dinghy sailing, get afloat whether it be in their own dinghies or use of club owned boats. There is no safety cover and all sailors sail at their own risk. Ask to sign up to the dinghy sailing WhatsApp to find out who else is going out on the water. Club boats available for hire to those approved to level 2 or 3. If you are not already approved to hire boats, assessments can be arranged on the day by emailing sailing@ffsc.co.uk Full results are here: https://ffsc.co.uk/racing/early-spring-series/ Also there is a sailors whatsapp group for updates, crews, hirings, cruising, email sailing@ffsc.co.uk to get added |
