On the 21st of May from 2pm Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club ran its first Push The Boat Out event. This national nine-day campaign saw over 350 sailing clubs open their doors with Push The Boat Out “have a go” taster sessions for all.
During the afternoon we saw around 30 people come down to the club and go afloat in Wayfarers and Dart 16s. The sail area was off the beach in-front of the club and was made challenging by strong wind against tide. No capsizes and everyone stayed relatively dry! It was great to see so many beaming faces coming ashore at the end of each 40 minute session and as a result we have a few new club members!
I would like to thank the volunteers on the land and afloat manning both the dinghies and safety boats for their time and efforts to make the first event a success.
Off the back of the success of this event we are currently discussing further open have a go days throughout the year and what more we can do for complete beginners and novice sailors. If you are interested please get in touch via the contact page.
Be sure to join us for PTBO next year!
